Digital Sound

Sound is a continuous or analogue waveform. Digitising approximates this continuous wave by measuring the wave at periodic intervals. The quality of the digital conversion depends on the resolution of this measurement (eg 8 bit or 16 bit) and the frequency of sampling (eg 44 kHz).
