GENEALOGY BASIC EQUIPMENT
This page gives a basic introduction into what equipment you need for genealogy. It was prepared for the March 2005 meeting of the NP GCG.
The aim here is to give a brief overview across the sorts of things you will probably want to do genealogy work. There is a lot of different software available. Due to personal preference, you may choose different applications to what we have mentioned here.
Computer Hardware
Computers are such a valuable tool for genealogy, that you really can't do without one. You need a computer with enough features to do all that you want. For most genealogy work, an older, less powerful computer can be quite satisfactory.
You will also need peripherals, such as printer, scanner, memory stick.
Computer Software
Computer software is the programmes that run on the hardware. Without software, the computer is just a big paperweight. There are many programmes to help you with genealogy.
Other Equipment
Believe it or not, you can't do everything on a computer. Other equipment includes your notebook, filing system, presentation folders.
