There as by an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled the "Public Reserves Act 1854" it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Govenor of New Zealand with the advice of His Executive Council in the name and on the Behalf of Her Majesty To grant to the Superintendent of each Province in New Zealand and his Successors all such Estate and Interest as Her Majesty then had or might have in any of the Lands within such Province forming part of the Demesne Lands of the Crown which shall have been reserved and set apart for the purpose of Public Utility within the said Province And Whereas the Pieces or Parcels of Land Firstly Secondly and Thirdly hereinafter particularly described and forming part of the Demesne Lands of the Crown have been reserved and set apart for General Education And Whereas the Lands Lastly hereinafter described have been received and set apart for Public Thoughfares Now Know ye therefore that I the Govenor in the name and on the behalf of Her Majesty with the advice of The Executive Council and pursuant to the Authority vested in Me in that behalf Do hereby grant unto the Superintendent of the Province of New Plymouth in the said Colony of New Zealand and his successors all those allotments or parcels of Land in Our said Colony containing by admeasurement one hundred and seventy nine (179) acres and two (2) Roods more or less situated in the town of New Plymouth Fitzroy District Being the Town allotments:.

And also all those other allotments or parcels of land containing by admeasurement thirty nine (39) acres one (1) rood more or less situated in the said Town Being the Allotments marked E-F-G-H-I-K-L-M-N-O-P-Q-R and S And Also All those other allotments or Parcels of Land containing by admeasurement seventy (70) acres sixteen (16) perches more or less situated in the Town Belt of New Plymouth Being the Allotments masked T-U-V-W-X and Y And also all Roads Streets and Squares containing by admeasurement Two hundred and twenty nine (229) acres two (2) Roods more or less situated in the said Town and Town Belt which said Allotments or parcels of Land are more particularly delineated in the Plan hereto annexed and therein coloured Pink And all the Estate and Interest of Her Majesty these in To hold the said several allotments or parcels of Land firstly secondly and thirdly hereinbefore described upon trust as an Endowment for Public Schools for General Education within the said Province And also to hold the Lands Lastly here in before described upon trust as Public Thoroughfares in the same Province.
