This was the third of the Plymouth Company ships to arrive in New Plymouth. Her first port of departure was London, with a fair complement of passengers for Wellington. At Plymouth she completed her loading, leaving there on 22 June 1841. Passengers numbered 191; 112 males and 79 females. The Oriental arrived in New Plymouth on 7 November 1841, unloading her passengers at the mouth of the Huatoki river. There were three births on board, including Caroline Oriental Street and Albert Bishop.
The married quarters on board consisted of one big apartment, with bunks in tiers all around the walls or sides of the ships. In the centre were tables, which were pulled up to the ceiling when not in use for meals.
