On Tuesday 23 February 1842, the ship Timandra, the fourth of the Company's chartered vessels, arrived at the road-stead, New Plymouth, direct from Plymouth, England. The ship had sailed from Plymouth on 2 November 1841. Josiah Flight in his diary wrote: "Monday, November 1st 1841. embarked on board the Timandra, 432 tons, register, at 6 o'clock p.m. The free emigrants were embarked on the previous Saturday, 201 in number, men, women and children."
The Surgeon-Superintendant, Dr Forbes stated that there had been 6 deaths (5 children and 1 adult), and 5 births on the voyage to New Zealand. The list of medical comforts for the voyage included: oatmeal, 134lbs; pressed beef, 70lbs; sugar, 480lbs; Port wine, 14½ bottles; Sherry wine, 14½ bottles; Brandy, 12 gallons; arrowroot, 12lbs; lime juice, 60 gallons; Scotch barley, 72lbs; stout, 360 gallons; rum, 48 gallons.
